Hi. I’m one unlucky person. No special experience, no meet and greet, nada, zilch but you know what, I enjoyed myself and so this is my experience. (If I got anything wrong or mixed up, I apologize.)
I came, I queued and I waited patiently. I could hear them rehearsing from outside and suddenly, a familiar tune started and I went all, “OMG IT’S SUPERNATURAL! OMG THEY’RE GONNA PERFORM IT!” (Thank you to my friends who endured it all hehe) Skip to doors being open and I found myself at the back. I literally just took like three steps and that’s where the crowd ended. Anyway skip skip moving barriers and such. Lights turned on, crowd started to cheer, lights dimmed, crowd cheered as well. Haha gets you into the mood. Manager kept going up on stage and even I was like, “Is that Moon?” because his hairstyle was similar and blocking his face lol
Opening act was a Bentley Music Academy student, Zoey. (I apologize if I got your name spelled wrong) She performed a rendition of Betting Everything on a keyboard.
Then, The MC came on, Bernard Hiew. Great MC, I must say. He went on with trying to hype up the crowd and then telling us secretly about James’ birthday surprise. It was hilarious. Then came the answering questions for goodie bags and participating in a game. Game was to say “Royal Pirates” and hold the last syllable for the longest amount of time. Felt a bit like a ‘yamseng’ thing. haha (The word ‘yamseng’ is usually done at Chinese weddings to wish the newlyweds the best. It’s done by shouting the word and holding the last note as long as you can”
First set: The boys came on stage and Moon started by greeting us and talking about the food they’ve had. James liked laksa, Moon like satay and nasi lemak and Sooyoon like everything. The showcase started with:
- Shout Out
- Seoul Hillbilly
- On My Mind
Let me stop here for a second and say THEY SOUND WAY BETTER LIVE! Everything sounded and infinity times better. haha After every song, Moon would say ‘thank you’ and introduce the next song. The crowd was always cheering and singing along, the energy was high. It was great.
Time for some Q&A. But before that, MC Bernard went up to James and requested to stand behind him. Hahahah the entire thing was hilarious. Apparently, James’ mic (or something else) was not turned on) MC then came back in front and announced, “It’s blue!” To the crew: Is that alright? hahha Go figure it out yourself.
In no particular order: (sorry, I didn’t get some parts of the answer)
Q: What was your first impression of Malaysia and now?
M: I had no idea what Malaysia was like and we went to KK (Sabah) first and …
SY: Malaysian fans are so passionate.
J: You guys are really passionate and …
Q: So, you guys toured with Lee Minho (crowd cheered lol) how was the experience?
M: We got to perform in front of like 5000 fans. So, it was great.
J: He gave us lots of advice.
MC: Was there any advice that was bad?
M: *starts to think*
J: No, all his advice were good. Is this a trap question? *laughs*
M: I was really thinking about any bad advice. (lol you would’ve have fallen into the trap, Moon)
Pointing game: (They were to point to the person who fits the given description)
Q: Who’s the diva among you? – Moon
Q: Who is the most caring? – James
Q: Who looks into the mirror the most? – Sooyoon
Q: Who eats the most? – James (I wouldn’t be surprised)
Q: Who is the most romantic? – They all pointed towards themselves. (HAH!)
Q: Which character would you want to be?
M: Batman (Make up your mind, Moon, Batman or Iron Man? hehe I noticed that both are super rich)
SY: I’ve said this before in an interview, I want to be The Hulk.
J: Captain America!
Q: How do you settle fights/arguments?
Someone said they’re pretty peaceful. and that Moon is a pacifist. Basically, they don’t really fight or get into arguments a lot.
Q: If you were given 1 million dollars (USD haha MC highlighted this), what would you do with it?
M: I’d invest in stocks.
MC: And this is coming from a pacifist (lol)
SY: I’d travel the world.
J: I’d get a private jet so that I can travel the world (and meet fans?)
Then, the MC got them to take the obligatory showcase/concert photo with all who were there. After all the flashes by the media, the lights were turned off and we started to sing Happy Birthday in Malay, Korean and then English. After that, I think James was a bit flustered and surprised lol. As they were getting ready to start the second set, Moon said, “Even we didn’t know about this. Wow. and his birthday is on June 9th. Happy Birthday.” James then started to play the happy birthday song on his guitar.
Moon,” So, the next song is going to be a bit energetic. It’s called Supernatural, Do you guys know the song?” Crowd cheered and they began to play. Best song of the night! We were not allowed to record this performance though. At the end, Moon revealed that the song was written by Sooyoon.
- Love Toxic
They then said, bye and left the stage. MC came back up and after some uhh… persuasion? haha the crowd was chanting Bernard’s name so he joked that he’d sing a song for us. He gave way and the boys came back up to perform:
- Drawing the Line
- You (James did kissy lips)
End. (How anti-climatic)
Sometime during the first set, I think, James tossed a drumstick to someone. Moon also said “Aku cinta padamu.” (I love you) a couple of times.
FANSIGN!! All albums sold by the Popular staff outside the hall finished. Woohoo!! I quickly queued up and got my album signed and today throughout my journey back, I kept replaying it in my head. Call me delusional lol. I’ve waited five years to finally be able to meet them face-to-face. Surprisingly, I kept my cool when meeting them. Sooyoon, I’m sorry that all I said was thank you.
James stole your time. 😛
Shout out to Cat, thank you for having me and thank you to CYL who showed up and thanks to this, I got to meet SunnySideHeart. 🙂
